Based on the extremely powerful Ninja ZX-14R, the 1352cc in-line four-cylinder engine produces smooth power delivery throughout the extremely wide rev range. The variable valve timing improves the flexibility and efficiency of the engine by altering the intake camshaft profile to boost low-end and mid-range power.   Also based on the ZX-14R, the monocoque frame of the Concours14 is light and rigid. Hollow aluminum box sections arch over the engine from the steering head to the swingarm pivot, and the engine acts as a stressed frame member to increase the frames torsional rigidity.

    Control is everything, especially in wet weather, which is why the KTRC (or Kawasaki Traction Control) system is so valuable. The KTRC system reduces engine output when wheel-spin is detected, helping the rear tire to regain grip in a way that feels natural and smooth. Advanced, three-way control (airflow, ignition timing, fuel delivery) gives KTRC smooth operation and the ability to operate on long stretches of rough roads.
